The best way to describe Devon's appearance would be messy. She's an attractive girl, but she's not very well put together. Her hair is always in some sort of disarray, her wavy brown hair usually pulled up into a messy bun or left loose to tangle around her shoulders. Clothing-wise, she has a unconventional style; comfort over anything else, except when it comes to shoes. She loves jeans and leather jackets, but she'll wear just about anything. Except skirts -- dresses are great, but Devon's convinced that skirts make her look ridiculous. She also has a penchant for walking around in her underwear (if anything at all). She insists that it has to do with being Therian, but the truth of it is that she's a bit of an exhibitionist. Oh well.

Secrets
» Devon really enjoys shifting into her animal form; sometimes, she wonders what it would be like to stay in her form permanently. The downside is that, as a result, she slips into her animal form very easily and finds it difficult to revert to normal.
» Also, even though she identifies as gay, Devon is still a little curious about what it would be like to have sex with a guy. This is all hypothetical, of course. She hasn't even gone further than kissing with a girl, never mind a boy.
» Despite being completely inappropriate (talking about sex, pornography, swearing, smoking, running around nearly-naked), Devon is a bit of an innocent. She doesn't like to advertise it, because she thinks it would ruin her cred, but she's a pretty big bullshitter. What she hasn't figured out is that most people already know that and love her anyway.

Devon is a free-spirit, end stop. zany, oddball, loony -- these are all words that have been used to describe her, but she doesn't care. Alright, that's not entirely true. She does care; a friend or teacher snapping at her can send her into a daze lasting days. She's oversensitive and has self-esteem that fluctuates like the weather, but (for the most part) she sees blue skies and wears rose colored glasses.

She writes completely in lowercase, with homework and essays being the exception. In her first year at Idris, she tried to make a case for lowercase lettering, stating that 'by capitalizing only certain letters, she would be encouraging inequality and subjecting the other characters to an unnecessary ranking system, not to mention, decimating their self-confidence'. Unfortunately, Professor Lowe didn't buy it. Since then, she's written with proper capitalization (on her homework), but that doesn't mean she likes it.

She also tends to personify inanimate objects. Certain things are male (her family's car) or female (her laptop). When she's at home, her books 'live' in the bookcase by her closet door. At Idris, they 'vacation' in the shelving above her desk. If she drops something, she winces and says 'ouch'. Even her stuffed animals have thoughts and feelings; she knows it's irrational, but she can't bring herself to give them away or throw them out. It would be too much like abandoning them. So, they live in plastic tubs in the attic. Obviously.

Other Family: Devon has many, many family members on either side of her family. She's closest to her father's family, as her Therian heritage comes from them.

Devon (or Valeria, as her mother calls her) was born to an Argentine couple with their issues. Her father, Sean, was born and raised in Argentina, but his family identifies strongly as Irish. Her mother is from a prominent political family, based in the nation's capital of Buenos Aires. She was groomed from a young age to marry a respectable son from their class and background; wedding a lesser man (what sort of name was Callaghan, anyway?) after only six months of dating was not in the plan. Those were not the only difficulties; Alejandra was a Mundie with no knowledge of 'supernatural' entities. To find out that her new husband and likely any children would be Therian... it was a shock to the system.

They were happy, however; things didn't truly get bad until Devon was eleven. Shortly after she left for her first year at Idris, the twins both turned three and experienced their first change. Before that, the family was content but divided. Sean looked after his Therian daughter, Devon, and Alejandra focused her attention on her Mundie daughter, Elena. With the knowledge that her two youngest were also Therians... well, suffice it to say, she wasn't pleased. When Devon came home from school that year, she was told that her mother and Elena had moved out.

She still sees her mother and Elena from time to time, but it's a strained relationship. The children avoid talking about their parents, their parents avoid talking about anything, really, and it's a difficult situation to be in. Not to mention, Devon remembers 'the before'. The twins were only toddlers when her mother left; Devon can easily recall the years when they were all happy together. Luckily for Devon, she is away at school for three-fourths of the year. She also knows that Tomás and Anabella will be getting their invitations in a few years' time too, which helps a lot.
